What?

The STS Summer School @ Harvard is an opportunity for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and young professionals to gain intensive training in STS concepts and methods. Students will spend a week interacting closely with distinguished international faculty members. The first half of the week will involve lectures, case analysis and small-group discussions, along with visits from leading policy practitioners. In the second half students will be exposed to cutting-edge research at the Science and Democracy Network’s annual meeting, a leading STS forum for examining questions of expertise in contemporary democracies.

When and Where?

The STS Summer School was held August 20-26, 2023 at Harvard University.

Who should apply?

We invite applications from graduate students and postdocs in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and related fields, as well as from young professionals in the tech industry, public policy and the media. Applications should demonstrate a strong interest in investigating the interconnections between expertise, trust and democracy.

Cost

Attendance at the STS Summer School is free for those admitted. Food and lodging will be covered for accepted students during the week of the Summer School. Students will be responsible for their own travel costs to and from Cambridge.

Please fill out the 2023 STS Summer School application form. All applications must include:

  • Academic or Professional CV (2 pages max)
  • Statement of Interest | Description of your background and qualifications and their relevance to expertise, trust and democracy (up to 500 words)
  • Reference | Name and email contact of your faculty advisor or professional supervisor
